Some people don’t crave the spotlight, but still understand when something is bigger than them. That’s LaTrika. She didn’t want to be tagged, she didn’t want the extra attention — but she did want her story shared. Because breast cancer awareness saves lives, and she knows someone out there needs to hear this.
At 43, she was diagnosed with invasive ductal carcinoma — triple negative breast cancer — a phrase no woman ever expects to hear. As a single mother, her first thought was her daughter. The fear of leaving her behind. The fear of history repeating itself, because she’s seen what this disease can do.
But in true LaTrika fashion, she faced every step with quiet grace. Her faith became her anchor, even in the hardest moments. She’ll tell you that God has shown up for her time and time again — through the doctors, through the healing, through the small mercies that have carried her this far.
Now, with chemo behind her, she’s awaiting scans to see how well the treatment worked before beginning the next phase — surgery, and possibly radiation. Through it all, she remains grounded in faith, trusting that God’s plans for her are still unfolding.
It takes courage to share your story — especially when you’d rather not be seen. But that’s exactly what makes her so powerful. LaTrika’s strength is a quiet kind, the kind that whispers you’re not alone to another woman scrolling, searching, and scared.
You can watch her full interview below.
And when you’re done, please — check yourself, schedule your mammogram, and lift up a prayer for every woman still in the fight.
About She’s in Focus: Beyond the Ribbon
This campaign was created to highlight the real stories behind the pink ribbons — the faces, the families, the faith, and the fight. Each woman featured has her own journey, her own fears, and her own triumphs. Through these stories, my hope is to spark conversations, encourage early detection, and remind every woman that she’s not walking this road alone.
